The Dacia Project
In the third volume of my photo book trilogy on Romania, “The Dacia Project”, I am making a retrospective journey around Romania by car in a 2002 Dacia 1310 (a rebadged 1970s Renault 12 and a symbol of Ceausescu's Romania) as well as Dacia's new SUV, the Duster. I will be exploring a world missing autostradas and caught between the 19th and 21st centuries with legions of roaming black Mercedes driven by men in designer suits. Romania has become accustomed to the outside pressures of Europe before the Holy Roman Empire. Disaster after disaster followed as conquest and tyranny became the norm. Disaster after disaster followed as conquest and tyranny became the norm. Romania is the blade of grass between the ruined corpses on the battleground, and thus it is heroic, absurd, corrupt and innocent all at the same time.
